Did you know sometimes even seasoning packets can contain gluten? There are a few brands out there that offer them, and I’m all for convenience, but there are times I have forgotten to grab a couple at the store and am left throwing some spices into my taco meat to get it just the way we like it. I think we can all attest to the fact that homemade is usually always better anyway, so I finally measured it all out and made a recipe for us all to fall back on 🙂 Feel free to double, triple, or quadruple this recipe. It stores in an airtight container for several months. I also use it to season eggs, popcorn, and tortilla chips!
Homemade Taco Seasoning
Makes enough for 2 lb of ground beef, chicken, or turkey
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt (use 1/2 teaspoon less if using fine salt)
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon coriander
1/2 teaspoon oregano
Directions:
Mix all spices together and store in an airtight jar or container. Use 2 tablespoons per 1 pound of ground beef, chicken, or turkey.
When you are ready to use it, brown the ground meat and add 2 tablespoons seasoning. **If you would like your taco meat a little more saucy, mix 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1/4 cup water or broth and stir this mixture in over medium-low heat at the end.
Notes:
serving suggestions: I also sprinkle this on eggs, tortilla chips, and salted popcorn!
